No more Rain: Another beautiful day in Wellington

Thankfully the rain & batches of hail went away today, & the sun came out. That means I got to go into the city!

Sacha dropped me off this morning near the cable car, which is a very famous/touristy thing to do if you come to Wellington. Sacha had to work, so she could only point me in the right direction...but I made it. There is an old fashioned red cable car that takes you up a long, steep track where you can overlook the whole city of Wellington. It was really beautiful, & I will post pictures. There is also a stop on the way for students going to University, so it was pretty cool.

Once I got up there I checked it out, and took some pictures. Then there are signs for all kinds of places you can walk. I saw a sign for the Wellington Botanical Gardens which I heard was gorgeous, so I decided to go check it out. There are winding paths everywhere. I think people who live in the city jog & walk their dogs around there.

I made it to the gardens, the tree house in the gardens, the duck pond, and the rose gardens. It was amazing. I saw a sign by the exit that suggested if you walk that way you go towards the city. The whole walk to the gardens was DOWN HILL...so I decided I did not particularly want to go all the way back UP the hills. So I started walking toward the city. Needless to say, after 45 minutes I realized I was going through little towns & things that I didn't recognize. Soon I was pretty lost, but I had only walked straight...so I simply turned around & went back the other way. I got back to the gardens, & then up all the big hills, & after getting lost a few more times, I saw the cable car! After at least 2 hours of extra walking, I got on a 5 minute cable car ride back into the city.

I strolled through the city for another few hours. Going into shops, checking out the fanatic rugby scene, & observing. Then I hopped on a bus back to Seatoun.

I came back here, had lunch, & saw Sacha's brother, Simon for a while. Sacha will go out with friends tonight, and Elinor is with her dad. So, I have the house to myself, & Sacha has given me her bath salts to take a nice warm, & relaxing bath. Fun fun!

Rainy Rainy Day in Wellington

Hello all,

It is now almost 6:00 pm on a Tuesday here in Wellington. I was hoping to take the long all day walk around the coast. But it poured and poured all morning, and almost all afternoon. I escaped around 12:00, long enough to grab some hot chocolate, and then come running back home after an hour or so because the wind was making the rain hit from all directions. Thankfully I had my rain jacket and boots, but the rain still makes it dreary and cold. Right when you think the sun is coming out, it rains again...and I mean pelting, hard rain!

Elinor is with her dad today, so I am here alone until Sacha gets home from work. She will probably be home in an hour or so.

I can't say today was too exciting. The update is that Frances, the girl in India, went through surgery last night and is okay. I am still waiting to hear exactly when they think she will arrive back home. Then I will be moving on, after a lovely visit here in the city.

I cleaned the kitchen, watched the dishes, did the laundry, and folded everything. During this time I realized I had a computer and i-tunes. This made my household tasks much more fun as I rocked out to all my music. Talia: I listened to, "It's Raining Men" just for you. Beginning the week

Today is Monday night, and another week has begun. Elinor went to Kindy this morning, her mom went to work, and I went into Wellington.

I somehow managed to find the immigration building again on my own, and I am now legally in New Zealand for 12 months with a working holiday visa! Yay! Somehow they were super nice, and decided to do it for me right there on the spot. Now there are no worries about that.

Then I went to the i-site, and found out some more info. Plans may or may not change in the coming months. After that I strolled through Wellington for quite a while, meeting people here and there, and stopping at another crepe stand.

I finally came across the famous Wellington Bucket Fountain, which is known and loved for it's dysfunctional nature. At some point they wanted to tear it down, and the people of Wellington went nuts...and so today it still stands.

After a while I was back in Seatoun where I met Elinor. Later at night we went out to her Uncle Simon's restaurant where he is a chef. It is a Mexican restaurant, and apparently Mexican is very new to NZ.

We got home after her bedtime. She was exhausted, and threw quite the tantrum about going to bed. But I simply took a shower, and am now going to bed myself.

The weather has gotten crazy. Very cold! And I can even hear the waves smashing in the distance.
