Hello all!

Michael and I are in a place at the moment called Pohara. We have been driving up the Golden Bay region. We have camped out every night but one, and on that one night--even we could not stand the rain. Apparently the south island is getting way more rain than normal this season, and we came right in the middle of it. It seems the weather likes to clear up during the day, and pour rain and blow wind like crazy at night. Often we just hope the tent and tarp are still on the ground and in one piece by the time we wake up the next morning.

Nights are cold, and mornings are hot as hell. I think by morning the tarp traps the heat in the tent, and we wake up sweating like crazy. Every morning both of us emerge from the tent w/ half our pajamas on or whatever, and just fall out of the tent on the ground outside. Anyone who would see us would think we had lost our minds, but it is truly unbearably hot in the morning and there is no other choice.

Anyway, we have explored, walked on the beach, cooked, met people, and learned a lot about each other lately. There haven't been too many people around to talk to besides each other, and towns are so small we ran out of food and money because there was no ATM or grocery store...which is why we are back in some kind of civilization at the moment.

I kept asking Michael to tell me stories at night for fun, and he kept saying he could not think of one single story....so I would prompt him with questions etc. However, the other night he suddenly said, "I can tell you a story!" He loves "Lord of the Rings," and has decides to tell me, in detail, the full story, from the beginning, of "Lord of the Rings." He loves it, and wants to see all the LOTR things in NZ, and now every night he tells me a bit of the story. It is so much fun to hear it like this! I feel like we are going back to the old days with oral entertainment, it is so great :-)

Not very good w/ computer usage lately. Hope all is well!
