I am not sure what I am doing in the first photo, but notice in the second picture all the ferns behind me. The silver fern is a huge symbol in NZ, and it represents the All Blacks Rugby team among many other things. The forest we had to walk through for 2 hours to get to the lake was covered with the ferns. It was shocking. I had not really seen them like this until this hike. It was unbelievable :)
